ERIC DANDURAND
Artist’s Statement
“I imagine my works being in families for generations, as being initiators of conversations and as being sources of joy for their guardians. I am proud to be a glass craftsman and I am proud to be an artist; I admire both the creative and technical aspects of glass. Glass is a fascinating material that enables me to go into that no-time zone and flow.”
-Eric Dandurand
Bio
When I was 3 years old, my family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNLV - 2/3 studio and 1/3 art history. I also earned a minor in Spanish and went to study in the Basque country of Spain on scholarship. I ended up staying four years in Europe, doing street performances of juggling fire, working summers at an English language camp for Basque children and finally working as an apprentice at Velamsund Glass Studios in Sweden. They started me out by shoveling glass into the furnace at night and giving me more complicated tasks as I worked my way up in the ranks. I apprenticed under Carl Radke of Phoenix Studios for 5 years after returning to the United States, while building up a business of my own via art festivals and galleries. I have started and sold a few studios and galleries in California since. I have learned the craft by watching, reading, experimenting and the most important of all - by practicing.
